We’re going to Laos to visit our producers and find new ones!

Laos is a country where natural beauty, deep history, and warm, diverse people come together in a uniquely gentle rhythm of life.

Laos’ beauty lies in its mist‑covered mountains, winding Mekong River, and serene Buddhist temples. Its landscapes feel untouched, offering quiet villages, lush forests, and golden sunsets that reflect the country’s unhurried pace.

Historically, Laos traces its roots to the Lan Xang Kingdom, founded in the 14th century, which shaped its culture, Buddhism, and regional influence. Later periods of French colonial rule and the turbulence of the 20th century further molded its identity.

The people of Laos—drawn from more than 50 ethnic groups—are known for their kindness, humility, and strong community values. Whether in bustling markets or remote hill‑tribe villages, Laotians share a deep respect for tradition, family, and the gentle philosophy of “bo pen nyang,” meaning no worries.

We are going back to visit our old producers and add to our ever growing network of fair trade producers across Asia.  We haven’t been back to Laos since covid ravaged the country and closed down much of it’s fragile tourist infrastructure.  But Laos is back on the up, and we want to help by working with our existing producers on new products and by finding new producers to join our ever growing network of fair trade producers.

We’ll be starting in the capital Vientiane, then moving up country to the jungle area around Luang Namtha, home of many ethnic communities, before heading eastwards towards the Vietnam border.

For our last week we’ll be in Vietnam you can read about it here
