We’re going to Vietnam to expand our range of fair trade products

We founded One World is Enough after spending a year travelling around Asia.  On our travels we met lots of wonderful artisan craftspeople making lots of amazing things.  That was 30 years ago!

One of our favourite countries was Vietnam or rather Viêt Nam, as the locals call it.  With one thing and another we never went back, but now we are righting that wrong and spending a week in the North of  Vietnam looking for some fabulous new producers to join our fair trade network.

Vietnam is a country of striking natural beauty, where emerald rice terraces cascade down mountains and limestone karsts rise dramatically from the sea in places like Ha Long Bay. The landscapes shift from the misty highlands of the north to the vibrant Mekong Delta in the south, offering a sense of wonder at every turn.

Equally captivating are the Vietnamese people, known for their warmth, resilience, and deep sense of community. Visitors are often greeted with genuine smiles and hospitality that reflect centuries of tradition. Vietnamese culture is rich and layered, shaped by history, family values, and a strong connection to food and festivals. From bustling street markets to serene pagodas, daily life blends the old and new seamlessly. Whether through traditional music, colorful lantern festivals, or a simple bowl of pho shared with others, Vietnam’s culture leaves a lasting, heartfelt impression.

Traditional craft producers in Northern Vietnam preserve centuries-old skills passed down through generations. Villages specialize in distinct crafts such as silk weaving in Van Phuc, pottery in Bat Trang, and intricate embroidery among ethnic minority communities in the highlands.

Artisans often work by hand, using natural materials and techniques that reflect both practicality and artistic expression.

These crafts are deeply tied to local identity and cultural heritage, often carrying symbolic meanings. Despite modern pressures, many producers continue their work with pride, balancing tradition and innovation to sustain their livelihoods while keeping their cultural legacy alive.

We hope to come back with a new range of  Vietnamese products and some new Vietnamese producers with whom we can work and develop designs into the future.
