Visiting the Mask Carvers of Central Bali

We went to meet the man who carves our traditional masks

This master craftsman hand carved all our masks from local albescia wood. It is amazing watching him at work , seeing how quickly he fashions a beautiful mask from a piece of wood, and how by eye he can make 10 or 20 identical masks.
Our masks are inspired by the wonderful tribal carvings of the Dayak People of Borneo who have an amazingly culture which despite the advances of the 21 century is still largely intact.
We undertook an expedition to Bornep to learn more about Dayak Tribal Masks and to find artisans that we could work with to source masks in Borneo. Unfortunately there was not the infrastructure in place to allow us to produce and ship the masks at competitive prices, so we took our research to our existing master wood carvers in Bali with whom we have been working for many years and we produced a range of masks inspired by the designs we had seen in Borneo.
As with all our products we work directly with our master carvers, the wood is sustainably sourced and we ensure our carvers receive a good price for their work and have safe working conditions.
